Freedom

Well, it’s about that time in every person’s life; when they chose to be independent, that means you can finally be your true self, and you can make your own decisions; you may think you’re free, but you’re not. What is freedom? Most people have their own definitions. Here's the internet definition: the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. And here’s my definition freedom is being lawless.

We may think we have freedom, but it’s limited by the government with all rules and laws. But I guess those rules and regulations to protect us from real freedom. Where you live in a constant state of fear that someone out there will come busting down your door and do unspeakable things to you or worst you’re child forcing you to watch. Like being forced to watch as your 10-year child is molested, but That’s my way of seeing it.

Where I live, we call it “the land of the free” unless you’re not a rich white cis-gender straight male; Then, in which case it may as well be called “war zone.” For the simple fact that you’ll always be fighting to be treated equally. And sure we have made progress by giving more rights to minorities in the U.S., but in places like China and the middle east, men are still valued more than women. And as a result, they are sold into slavery at a young age or work in sweatshops. Sounds familiar America home of the brave land of the free. So I ask you how free are we? In comparison.

We poke fun at anyone who’s “different” from what we think of thinks is normal then when we can get criticized for It we act like we’re the victim. And we only do this out of fear, because we fear change; we fear what we don’t know or understand. When we encounter someone different from us. When what we think is “the norm,” we feel that our way of life is threatened, so bully them in silence and act like we’re the victims. Will we ever be “free” probably not.

We, as a society, label things or give artificial titles to everything; it either right or wrong. There is no actual grey area in our eyes because things have to be one way or the other. Everything gets oversimplified because it's easier for us to wrap our heads around.
